About Acton, Ontario
Acton is a community located in the town of Halton Hills, in Halton Region, Ontario, Canada. At the northern end of the Region, it is on the outer edge of the Greater Toronto Area and is one of two of the primary population centres of the Town; the other is Georgetown, Ontario. From 1842 until 1986, the town was a major centre for the tanning and leather goods industry. In the early years, it was often referred to as "Leathertown". Couple of notable festivals are Acton Winter Carnival (great community event which takes place the last Sunday in January. This family friendly event starts off with the 197 Squadron Air Cadets Pancake Breakfast at the Town Hall Centre), and Leathertown Festival! Acton is now a unique historical cultural centre inside of the Town of Halton Hills. The Downtown that was once home to our beloved leathertown is now home to over 120 unique shoppes, restaurants and offices. Acton, nestled within the protected lands of the Greenbelt and the Niagara Escarpment, remains the last great small town in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA).
